Account
Delete your account
You can delete your Loop CheckOut account yourself, from inside the app, at any time. This page explains how, what is removed, and what we are required to keep.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no grace period and it cannot be undone. If you want a copy of your data, request it before you delete.
Delete it yourself, in the app
This is the fastest route and the only one that takes effect straight away.
Loop CheckOut (consumer app)
- Open the app and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Support.
- Under Account, tap Delete account.
- The app shows you exactly what you will lose. Type DELETE to confirm.
Loop CheckOut Merchant (merchant app)
- Open the app and go to Tools.
- Tap Settings, then Support.
- Under Account, tap Delete account.
- The app shows which businesses you belong to and what happens to them. Confirm as prompted.
If you have forgotten your password, use the password reset on the sign-in screen first, then follow the steps above.
If you cannot open the app
If you no longer have the app installed, have lost your device, or cannot sign in at all, email privacy@loopcheckout.com and tell us you want your account deleted.
We will verify that you control the account before anything is deleted. Because deletion is permanent and, for a business owner, can close a shop's ability to trade, we do not act on an emailed request on its own — an email address is easy to forge, and the damage cannot be reversed. What happens instead:
- We reply to the email address registered on the account and ask you to confirm from it. We act only on that confirmation, not on the original message.
- For a merchant account, we also ask you to confirm the business registration number held on the account.
- Wherever possible we will help you get back into the app so you can delete the account yourself, rather than doing it for you.
We reply to every request, and we aim to resolve them well within the 40 days set by the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
A note on scams. Loop CheckOut only ever writes to you from an @loopcheckout.com address, and we will never ask you for your password, a verification code, or payment details — by email, message or phone. If you receive something claiming to be from us that asks for any of those, it is not us. Forward it to privacy@loopcheckout.com.
What deleting does
When your account is deleted, we:
- remove your email address and phone number from our systems;
- permanently disable your sign-in and end all active sessions;
- deactivate your Loop Tag and QR code, so no further receipts can be added to your account;
- stop all push notifications and marketing messages, and withdraw your marketing consent;
- discard any marketing message that had been queued but not yet sent.
Your email address is freed, so you can create a new account with it later if you want to.
What we keep, and why
A receipt is a record of a transaction between you and a merchant, and the merchant is legally required to keep its own business records — in Hong Kong, for at least 7 years under section 51C of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap. 112). So we do not delete receipts, loyalty records, points ledgers or security audit logs when you close your account. Instead we remove the personal identifiers that linked them to you. The merchant keeps its sales record; it no longer identifies you as the customer.
Your display name on things you shared. If you shared a receipt or split a bill with another Loop CheckOut user, the name you chose stays visible to that person afterwards, in the same way an email you sent does not disappear when you close your email account. If you would prefer your display name removed as well, email privacy@loopcheckout.com and we will do it.
If you work at a business
Deleting your merchant account removes your own access. It does not close the business: receipts, offers, loyalty and billing carry on as normal, and your colleagues keep their access.
Unless you are the only owner. If you are the sole owner of a business, deleting your account closes that business on Loop CheckOut. It stops being able to issue receipts, its offers are withdrawn, and any remaining staff lose access. The app tells you this before you confirm, names the business, and asks you to type the business's own name rather than just the word DELETE. Receipts already issued to your customers are not affected — they keep them.
If you want to hand the business to someone else instead of closing it, make them an owner in the app before you delete your own account.
Getting a copy of your data first
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you at any time by emailing privacy@loopcheckout.com. Request it before deleting, because deletion is immediate and afterwards we can no longer identify which records were yours.
